Open a shift and count the float
Payments on a till need an open shift. Opening one means counting the float, the cash in the drawer before the first sale.
Till Menu (☰) Shift and drawer Open the shift
- Open the menu › Shift and drawer.
- Tap Open the shift and count the Float: By notes and coins, or One amount.
- The till shows the usual float and what the last shift left counted, to compare.
- Tap Open the shift with ….
Example
Opening the café
Priya counts the drawer at 7 am: 200 in notes and coins. The last shift left 200 counted, so it matches. She taps Open the shift with 200 and serves the first coffee.
A payment asks for a shift
"No shift is open on this till. Payments ask for one: count the float first." Open the shift, then take the payment.
Do card-only tills need a shift?
Payments on any till ask for an open shift, so the day's takings, tips and refunds belong to one shift and one person.
If it goes wrong
"This shift was opened on … and is still open"
Yesterday's shift wasn't closed. Close it with a count first (a manager approves the late close), then open today's.
